Message from Barb and Evert Temminck, Conakry, Guinea
Thank you for all of your prayers over the last month as we have traveled from Guinea to Holland to Tucson. Barb left Guinea on June 7th to attend PBT International financial meetings in Dallas, Texas. She was met there by her sister-in-law, Gisele Garcia, who attended a forwarding agent (FA) seminar sponsored by PBT. Gisele and Barb’s brother, John, will begin their roles as our new forwarding agents over this summer. MANY, MANY thanks to Carla Livak who has stepped in the gap for us and picked up the FA responsibilities over the last 4 months, as we have transitioned from Barb’s sister being our FA. The FA seminar and the financial meetings went very, very well. PBT as an organization is rapidly growing and there are many IRS financial changes taking place for non-profit organizations. Barb and Gisele also benefited from being a part of Pioneer Missions Institute which is a week-long seminar to acquaint prospective missionaries with the ministry of Bible Translation.
Meanwhile in Guinea, the girls were finishing up the school year and Evert was closing up our house for the summer. Political instability is still plaguing Guinea and it was touch-and-go as to whether or not Evert and the girls would leave Guinea as scheduled because of more political unrest. All of us were VERY HAPPY to meet in Brussels on Sunday morning June 15th and begin our 2 weeks of vacation and spending time with Evert’s family. It was a very relaxing and restful 2 weeks.
We arrived safely in Tucson on July 1st and were met at the airport by Barb’s Mom & brother-in-law. It feels really great to be in Tucson, but it’s also very strange being that it’s our first summer without Barb’s Dad and sister here with us. My brother bought this past spring a house in Tucson and we’re delighted to be able to use this place as our home during the summer. We feel so blessed and privileged as the Lord is taking such care of us: Barb’s Mom has provided us with a vehicle and phone, Barb’s brother and sister-in-law with a place to live, Barb’s brother-in-law with swim lessons for the girls, Evert’s father with a vacation trailer home and a vehicle while in Holland, Evert’s brother and sister-in-law with bikes for the girls while in Holland.
As we mentioned in our previous update, we will be doing much resting and hanging out with family and friends. Our prayer and desire is to return to Guinea with a cup overflowing as we join our teammates in bringing the Bible to the people of Guinea. In the meantime, we’re enjoying visiting with family and friends. If any of you are in Tucson over the summer PLEASE look us up! We have plenty of room for visiting friends. Our number for the summer is 520-981-6008. We will be having a get-together in Tucson and in Phoenix at some point this summer, so let us know if you’re interested and we’ll be sure to give you the details as we know them. Also, we have put together a 3 minute power point presentation and if any of you are interested in having the file, we can send it to you. Let us know.
